Five candidates outline their platforms for Oakville mayor

InsideHalton.com has profiled the five candidates seeking to become Oakville’s next mayor: Rob Burton, Arvind Choudhary, Julia Hanna, Jeff Knoll and Sean O’Meara.

Their proposals include differing approaches to growth, taxes and development. Burton supports infrastructure projects, restrictions on data centres and keeping tax increases in line with inflation. Choudhary proposes freezing the town’s share of property taxes for 2027, pausing high-density permits in Midtown and bringing 5,000 jobs to Oakville. Hanna says she would review the 2027 budget, prioritize infrastructure and oppose large AI data centres.

Knoll emphasizes managed growth, accountability, community safety and economic development, while O’Meara says he would oppose the Midtown proposal and strong-mayor powers, support a moratorium on AI data centres and establish a lobbyist registry. Choudhary urged voters to cast their ballots on Oct. 26.
