Lecce highlights Halton’s role in Ontario nuclear expansion
Oakville News reports that Energy and Mines Minister Stephen Lecce visited Kiewit Canada’s Oakville office on Oct. 9 to discuss Halton’s role in Ontario’s nuclear expansion. Oakville MPP Stephen Crawford joined him at the event, where Lecce thanked company employees for their work in the sector.
Lecce said the province is pursuing additional nuclear technology, hydroelectric projects and a small modular reactor, while also accelerating mine development. He linked the expansion to Canada’s economic sovereignty amid trade pressures from the United States.
According to Lecce, Halton companies will support nuclear construction in northern Ontario through the supply chain. Kiewit Canada president Patrick Lamarre said the company is involved in discussions about nuclear projects, northern Ontario hydro power and the small modular reactor.
