Halton police inspect commercial trucks in annual safety blitz
CHCH News reports that Halton police were conducting an annual safety inspection blitz targeting large trucks and commercial vehicles. Officers examined vehicles and their loads, including tires and wheel fasteners, to identify safety problems.
Police said one parked commercial vehicle operator was fined after alcohol was detected in his system. Drivers interviewed during the initiative described some nervousness about what inspections might uncover.
Last year, 30 per cent of trucks inspected failed, police said, compared with an 80 per cent failure rate several years earlier. Unsafe loads and brake problems were among the issues officers were looking for.
