Oakville mayoral hopefuls discuss Midtown development at Ward 3 forum

InsideHalton.com reported that hundreds of residents attended a Ward 3 all-candidates meeting at Oakville Trafalgar High School on Sept. 29. The event was organized by local residents’ associations and featured all five mayoral candidates and the two Ward 3 town councillor candidates.

Candidates discussed provincial plans for Midtown, where four minister’s zoning orders would allow Distrikt Developments to build 11 structures ranging from 45 to 56 storeys on a 4.9-hectare site near Oakville GO Station.

The mayoral candidates offered differing approaches, including opposing the project, seeking changes to its height and density, or advocating directly with the province. Ward 3 candidates Morgan Elliott and Jen Zhou also shared concerns about data centres, including their potential effects on jobs, utilities, water and the environment.
