Potential Ninth Line data centre would bypass Oakville Hydro, mayor says
Oakville News reported that Mayor Rob Burton said a proposed 320-megawatt artificial intelligence data centre on Ninth Line would receive electricity through Ontario’s system rather than Oakville Hydro’s local network.
Burton made the comments during Oakville council’s Sept. 28 meeting, after Oakville Enterprises Corporation officials discussed the potential impact on local electrical capacity. The town has not received a formal application for the facility.
Canadian-headquartered HIVE BUZZ HPC is considering a $3.5-billion campus at 3480 Ninth Line. The company purchased the 25-acre property, while council approved a one-year freeze on data centres and other high-intensity computing facilities on Aug. 11.
