Oakville reviews proposal for 6,420-home Trafalgar development

Oakville News reports that Oakville is reviewing a proposal for a 27-building community at the southeast corner of Trafalgar and Burnhamthorpe roads. The plan includes 6,420 homes, 10 towers between 18 and 30 storeys, commercial space, new public streets and 7,703 parking spaces.

Westerkirk Capital presented the proposal to council during a public hearing on Sept. 8. Councillors raised concerns about the development’s density, the amount of green space and the timing of amenities as construction phases proceed.

Planning consultant Eric Turcotte said construction could begin in seven to nine years, with the full project taking 15 to 20 years. The proposal does not yet specify whether affordable housing will be included, and about 65 per cent of the planned units would be one-bedroom or one-bedroom-plus-den homes.
